What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is a government initiative that provides additional funding on top of the main funding a school receives. It is targeted at students from disadvantaged backgrounds to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as pupils from less deprived families. Currently, the premium is worth £1320 per pupil and goes to students who are currently on Free School Meals, students in care who have been looked after by local authorities for more than six months and also any child that has been registered for Free School Meals (FSM) in the past six years.

Why is there a Pupil Premium?

Research shows that some children from disadvantaged backgrounds underachieve when compared to their peers from less deprived backgrounds. Pupil Premium funding is provided to support these children to reach their full potential and close the attainment gap.

What is Pupil Premium spent on?

We have spent our Pupil Premium in three key areas. The combination of these areas are decided on a case by case basis.

• Academic support to raise attainment

• Emotional support to nuture self-confidence

• Enrichment to encourage engagement in school life

It is for the school to decide how best to spend the Pupil Premium allocation, however we will be held to account on how we have utilised the funding and the impact it has had. The below documents further detail our Pupil Premium expenditure and impact.

How do I know if my child is entitled to Pupil Premium?

You can register your child for Free School Meals if you get any of these benefits:

• Income Support

• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

• The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

• Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190

• Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ – the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

How do I register for Pupil Premium?

Registering is really quick and easy – if you think you qualify, contact Nottinghamshire County Council on 01623 433009. No one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming.

Who can I speak to about Pupil Premium?

Your child’s Class Teacher will be able to answer any queries you have about how we are using Pupil Premium to support individual children. The Office staff can offer information and advice about Pupil Premium eligibility. All conversations or correspondance will be treated as confidential.
